Captain Gerrard pleased with victory

Skipper Steven Gerrard has praised the rest of the lads for their performance against Manchester City.

“It was a difficult game against a physical side,” said Gerrard.

“I thought Man City defended really well and didn’t give much away. We had a difficult game in midweek and Man City have had a week’s rest, so a big three points today and the most important thing was the win rather than the performance.

“We managed to get the breakthrough with my goal and we went on and claimed the three points. It was a good team performance today.

“I am more pleased with the three points than my goal because we have another home game on Wednesday and if we can do that against Portsmouth we can perhaps find ourselves in a better position in the league.”
