OK so we have now we have the cash to compete with those dirty MANCS and Chelsea scum but what are we going to do with it?
We have been linked with various players in various positions as we are every summer, but the difference this time is that we can actually buy them if he want to do so.
STRIKERS: Robbie ‘God’ Fowler is now gone. We will always love you Robbie. That but that leaves us with three recognised strikers. Dirk Kuyt, Peter Crouch and Craig Bellamy + a fit-again Luis Garcia.
Kuyt seems to be the only one of the trio who is assured of a position next season. Dirk is great at holding the ball up and bringing the midfielders into the game but I think he could be more effective with a fast livewire striker supporting him.
Crouch has apparently been told by Rafa that he still has a future at the club and fair play, his form this season has shown that he will get goals when given solid game time.
Controversial striker Craig Bellamy is the least secure of the three and could be on the way out if we sign a similar style running forward (Owen, Eto’o etc)
I think Luis will still be at the club next season. Haven’t heard anything regarding a move and he is apparently fit and already in training for next season.
We have been linked to numerous strikers including Samuel Eto’o, David Villa, Carlos Tevez and Darren Bent. Who would you go for? I think Eto’o is a gem of a player. He has proven it at the top with Barcelona and will get us 20 goals a season. Tevez is the other striker I would purchase. After his slow start at the Hammers showed what he can do in an ordinary side. Imagine what he could do with the proper support.
That would leave Dirk and Crouchy on the bench assuming Bellamy leaves the club this summer.
FLANKERS: Our biggest issue. We need at least two new established ‘World Class’ flankers.
Jermaine Pennant has had a so so debut season at the club, Harry Kewell can be brilliant on his day but is to injury prone to rely on over the length of a season, Mark Gonzalez and Bolo Zenden are going to be sold by Rafa this summer.
The number one flanker I would like to have is the one Rafa is going to get (hopefully). SIMAO. He is quick, tricky, set piece master and is has big game experience. We almost had him at the start of the 05-06 season then he came back to bite us in the Champions league with Benfica that season.
CENTRAL MIDFIELD: I am very glad and proud to say that I wouldn’t swap out centre of the park with anyone. We have the best midfield in world football. Stevie, Mascherano, Momo and Alonso. Perfect.
DEFENCE: Rafa could make a few changes here. Carra is obviously safe but the rest is there for the taking in my books. Stevie Finnan, Daniel Agger, John Arne Riise (love’em all) they are all solid consistent performers but is Rafa looking for more?
I know Finnan is being offered a new deal so I assume he is safe. Brazilian Daniel Alves has been linked with us for some time now. He can play both as a right sided flanker and as an attacking full-back. Would give Finnan some very serious competition.
Agger has been another example of Rafa’s mastery. What a bargain. But we are still being linked with other established central defender like Diego Milito (Argentinean defender from Real Zaragoza) so who knows. I’m 100% sure Agger will be with us next term but maybe Rafa wants to keep him on his toes.
Hyppia is another loyal servant of the club who looks like he may be surplus to requirements at the club next season. If he does go, I’m sure every Reds fan will wish him the best.

I think that this would be a really good team, but i think that we will always need someone like Jermaine Pennant to put crosses into the box. For me, Alonso and Mascherano are not those types of players. Teves seems to put a few crosses in, but i think Simao likes to hang near the edge of the box a lot. Other that that, i do think that this Liverpool team would catch up with Manchester United and challenge for the title and Champions League again. Also, i think that someone lke Eto’o or Tevez would bring out the best in Stevie Gerrard, because they are so intelligent, they would read his passes so well. This would be a really really good Liverpool team.

How much money can we really spend? Today I heard that Liverpool gave up on Tevez because he is to expensive. How much money are the new owners really giving Rafa this summer? I think a lot of people have way to big expectations, and I think we will miss out on that world class striker we desperately need. Man Utd have already spent more than £40 million and are still spending more. I don’t think Liverpool have £40 million to spend, and I don’t think there will be a Eto’o or Villa on Anfield when the season kicks off. Maybe they settle for Owen since a lot of supporters would see that as acceptable. Hopefully we get a good left winger at least.

i agree with morten, i dont think there is anywhere near whats really available to spend then what the papers etch saying, the owners keep draggin on and united have spent £50million already whereas we’ve got 2 hungarian strikers…
i would love to see tevez, eto’o/villa, torres, alves and simao here next season, but lets be realistic, the best we could get is owen, who i dont really want back anyway after the way he left us, and why would we want a striker who will only play a handful of matches a season and spend the rest of the time on the sidelines injured?
Nice team yeah, looks good on paper, but i dont think rafa is ever gonna start with a 4-3-3…it aint his style of play. think ive only ever seen him try it on 3 occasions with the pool, i may be wrong !!
i really think harry kewell “if fit” will be a big part of rafa’s plans next season.. so im stickin with a 4-4-2 formation !! kewell on the left and simao on the right..has anybody heard anything on the gerrard lookalike jaqouin movin 2 liverpool..he’d be sweet on the right either !!
as for strikers, eto or torres would be ideal, villa, overrated, bent good but not good enough..

hell yeah i would swap simao for torres and or david villa liverpool need a proven goalscorer but also one that can fly past defenders.our midfield is good enough with gerrard,alonso,mascherano,sissoko.right wing and left wing need some serious tweaking.

we can sell Bellamy, crouch and sissoko.they are good players but not for us, i like sissoko but we have alonso, mescherano and gerrard who are better then him.

I think Pepe Reina and back four of Riise, Carragher, Agger, Finnan should remain the same, maybe with the inclusion of a supporting left-back in case Riise is injured or moved up for a more attacking approach. Alvaro can be a good supportive player for Finnan as I think he only has a couple of good years left in him.
The 3-man midfield of Gerrard, Alonso and Mascherano is perfect and there is no reason to change this. Momo Sissoko can also fill in for the defensive role that Javier and Xabi have been playing if need be.
Peter Crouch will remain as he should – a bench player. I like the idea of Kuyt supporting two high-profile names, whether it be the likes of Tevez, Torres or Eto’o. There are a few others that could be thrown into the mix as well, Darrent Bent, Michael Owen, David Villa would all be more than sufficient to take Bellamy’s place.

I think it’s time we all start using our heads. Simao said no to Liverpool because HE did’nt get enough money. He was given a fair salary, but wanted a minor raise. Liverpool said rightly NO. We do NOT want players like that at the club. We want players that LOVE playing for Liverpool, and is proud of it. Proud enough to bleed for the club. Like Gerrard, Riise, Kuyt, Hamann, Macallister. Look at Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal. All of them has top quality players and has had the chance to win champions league the last 7 years, but they won’t win it…. Liverpool could. With Houlliers men. It’s just a matter of being proud and willing to risk it all for the club. I don’t want Liverpool to end up as Man U or Chelsea. Top quality players with no heart. I’d rather end up mid table to be honest ……

unlike lahm, anyone who has seen this little trickster play will know why i want him. right footed left back who gets forward so well, was for me the best defender of the last world cup (thats INCLUDING the italians)
lucas will play in the centre with him and gerrard given lots of freedom thanks to jav. lets not forget his scoring record from midfield.
vicente has lost his way in the last couple of seasons but under rafa was the best winger in the world. exactly the kind of player we need and rafa knows him inside out.
villa – better than eto’o, better than torres, as good as huntelaar (who i would love to see in red, unfortunately we probably will just the wrong shade)
no to simoa! money grabbin overated b*stard! and id love to see both momo and xabi stay, kewell and pennant could be very able deputies for the wide positions and with kuyt/crouch being rotated in for that extra midfield it would give rafa the options that we know he loves. arbeloa will fancy his chances of overturning finnan in the next year. i think the amount of competition will bring the best out of riise and may play more in the midfield. bellamy can go as can hyypia albeigh with a heavy heart respect for a man who always gave his best for our club.

I think that alves would be a great acquisition along with david villa. not too sure about simao to be honest, of what i have seen he is very influential but im not sure of the premierships physical demand. We also have to be realisitic in our signings, eto’o had already said he wants to stay at barca and lyon are askin the pool to cough up £17 mil for malouda. i forgot to mention tevez who i believe would make an instant impact for us. Sissoko/Lucas to a fellow premiership club would be wise. Lucas is the Brazil under 20 captain so must have potential.
I think its time for Zenden to move on, although he has done a lot for the club.
It would be a shame to see Sami go but he wants to be a regular im sure, i would welcome him being a coach in the future though.
I don’t think pennant, kewell and crouchs future are in doubt, but i think bellamy will move to aston villa.
I love that team!!! My only comment would be keep Finnan instead of bringing Alves in. Alongside Carragher he’s been our most consistent defender over last two years, and is also good crosser of the ball with both feet assisting many goals in that manner. Other than that, its all good!!
Were looking good at the moment need to bring in a left winger i.e Malouda/Gamst Pederson. then as we all agree a 20+ goalscorer Villa is a different class but a big gamble at the price atleast Samuel Eto is a proven world class striker. id hate to pay £30-40 million for villa then him not handle the physicality of the premiership.
