Gillett ready to spend

New Reds Co-Owner George Gillett
OK. No need to tell you that every Reds fan and their dog are stressing about our lack of transfer activity so far this summer.

We have re-signed Stevie G, Carra, Pepe and Xabi and that is great, but I’m sure that I would be right in saying that all of us were expecting some big big arrivals ahead of next season.

Now Reds co-owner George Gillett has given us some reassurances saying that we are ready to enter “phase two” of the summer plan.

He told liverpoolfc.tv: “I sense that kind of pressure building from the media. I think the fans know that we have huge regard for Rafa. He has a number of initiatives and concepts and plans under way.

“We’re not going to do something just to try to prove something. I can assure you that we are working on different things.

“The first part was identifying a number of our existing star players whom Rafa wanted to sign on long-term contracts.

“That was the first step and it has been done. Now we’re moving on to phase two, which is bringing players in.

“For Tom and me, this really is about trying to win championships, and that takes commitment, no matter what sport.

“We are pleased with Rafa and his strategy. It’s not dissimilar to what he outlined to us in February. His belief is to look for players with the proper chemistry to enhance the team.

“We support Rafa. He has a programme under way and, as that unfolds, that will be the time for us to be judged, not now.”

Most fans I have talked with think Rafa was waiting for the Primera Liga to end in order to start negotiations, and I hope they are right. I would be hugely disappointed if we did not sign a minimum of two world class players this summer.

I’m still quietly confident that we won’t be disappointed and will see some big faces arrive at Anfield soon. What do you think?

I’ve seen this type of pressure to spend before and it normally leads us buying turkeys. It doesn’t matter whether our signings amount to £10.00-£150,000,000m Rafa knows what he needs. It’s all about quality, the mission is clear! We need the Premiership back where it belongs! Personally i feel if we have to pay an extra £10m to secure a player that teams are arguing over i.e. Alves, Wright-Phillips, Villa….I’m sure Rafa will make the right decsions.

OK we all know that the first thing was to get Carra, Stevie, Pepe and Xabi and few others to resign (Finnan and Momo are appently about to sign new deals as well!). As Little Big George said “Phase 1 is complete”! We were also waiting for La Liga to finish (appantly!). So we can expect a new face or 2 within the next few days!

We all need to stop believing that all what the press say is not true! In fact 85% of what the print is a load of tot anyway! with Rafa being on his hols and him already secruing the services of Vorroin, the Hungury boys and Lucas, not to mention the perment signg of Pato, we were never going to anyone til about the end of June!

So to all the Doomsayers out there i say this:

Have faith in Rafa the Gaffa!

Liverpool always keep dealings very close to their chest. They let the media know what they want them to know and nothing more. We will get Torres because he wants to play for us, we are also in for Malouda , Simao and Benayoun, also Alves is a possibility. Rafa will not pay over the odds and why should he and he will also only sign players who really want to play for Liverpool which is the way it should be. In Rafa I trust.
